this is the first of what will be many an Ahrin pick. Ahrin (also known as Ahrin Renichan) is a youtube channel that primarily uploads obscure Japanese emo, amongst various other countrie's obscure emo and hardcore punk releases. i will henceforth be tagging everthing on here that i discovered through that channel as "Ahrin"
didsmileat is the project of a bloke called Kurosaki, who was the drummer for a band I can't find anywhere corroborating the existence of other than one tiny mention on waterslide records (my beloved). needless to say they were very obscure. the music reads as insanely complex Japanese style melodic math rock (think Uchu Conbini or Jyocho) + off-kilterdely screamed vocals.
Discography:
this ep has 2 songs, the first one i don't like too much, but i really like the second one, somewhat balancing insane complex drumming, weird screaming and bizzaro guitarro that the band likes to do with a more melodic and emotive sound. alas i'll never know the lyrics so expect nothing on that front.
Prose:
The tower is nigh on a force of nature. So tall that it has its own gravitational pull, planets orbiting, spinning around in unison as they worship the spire. Twisted twines of the interlocuted vines spiral on seemingly endlessly. I want to grab on and start my ascent, but i fear i will never reach the top. That i'll die there on the vines, that they'll absorb me, my body nothing but a continuation of the monolithic obelisk i see before me, giving it fuel to grow, expand to encompass whole universes, eventually multiverses in a never ceasing crawl for domination over all other forms of matter.
