The Metic

The Metic we're a noisy indiemo band from Kelowna, BC, Canada (what a name). They were about in the late 90s and early 2000s, they had overdriven dirty guitars, hyper drumming, sping slowcore dynamics & an off-kilter and very passionate vocalist (almost like weatherday, save for the dynamcs, whom i saw live recently at the behest of a good friend, and, despite being stuck in three bridges until 5am and feeling really shitty about myself for no apparent reason, and my phone running out of battery, i had a really great time).

I know absolutely next to nothing about this band, since i randomly found them on Discogs and they were really obscure and they haven't hit whatever algorithm Eldritch Anisette and Harrison Bergeron hit that means that i have an EA t-shirt in the mail as we speak. But what i can tell you is that a Metic is basically an ancient greek illegal immigrant, or to use more codified language, a a resident of Athens and a few other places around the same time who was a resident of another polis (city-state), the wikipedia article is an interesting read (especially if you know nothing of the ancient civilisations such as i). Which makes for a really cool band name in my most humble of opinions.

Review:

This album slithers (not beslimedly, but competently, like an scientifically accurate snake, glossy and dry-ish) between springtime slowcore, cathartic indiemo and hyper-complex drum & noisy (yet not unmelodic) guitar jamming. I dunno what the lyrics are about (no lyric booklet) but the conviction behind them is probably enough for this kind of music.

verdic - if you want the midpoint between mineral and noisy slackermo with intonations of purplene, listen to this, otherwise also listen to this it's really good 

 

Before this band Darcy Hancock (if the rick texan from the simpsons was australian this is what i would call him) was in The Nova Scotias and after this band he was in Hard Feelings, Sports, Ladyhawk oh and i guess he's also a producer (check his credits on discogs for that)

 

Cary was in another band around the same time as this called Sparrow, and now makes music as Prairie Cat
